Please note: This is a weaving pattern designed for the Bergé weaving board, not a finished product!
The Paule Vest is designed with a slightly scooped round neckline that looks wonderful layered over a sweater, turtleneck, or dress. It’s a great pattern for exploring the possibilities of the weaving board. The shapes and patterns are simple, while allowing you to go beyond the basic square and discover new possibilities.
SIZES: 1 (2 – 3 – 4) 5
The Paule Vest is designed to be worn with approximately 5 inches of positive ease at the bust. To find your size, measure the fullest part of your bust with a measuring tape. For example, my bust measures 34 inches, so my ideal size would be size 2, which measures 40 inches in total bust circumference. For a more oversized look, I would choose size 3. If you fall between two sizes, I recommend sizing up.
FINISHED BUST CIRCUMFERENCE: 36.5 (40 – 43 – 46.5) 50 inches
YARDAGE: Depending on the size you choose, you will need 300 (340 – 380 – 420) 460 yards, or 275 (310 – 350 – 385) 420 metres of yarn for this project.
PLEASE NOTE: If you hold your yarn double, as I did for the beige and multicoloured samples (which were made with fingering/sport-weight yarn), be sure to double the required yardage for your project as well!
FIBRES: For this project, I recommend a rustic wool. In addition to its lovely tactile and visual texture, this type of wool provides good structure once woven, which is exactly what we want for this slightly autumnal layering piece!
ONE MORE THING: The Paule Vest is finished with knitting. If you know how to knit, great! If you don’t, there’s a tutorial to show you how to work the ribbing used for the edges. I truly believe anyone can do it—all it takes is a little confidence!
If you don’t already have the right needles (US 7 with a 32 inches cable), you can purchase them from Laines Biscottes.
The pattern includes all the instructions you need to weave the vest at home, along with several video tutorials. Yarn and accessories are not included.
